چکیده

results: we performed reverse sural flaps in eight gunshot patients, to cover the defects of the lower leg and foot. surgical site infection observed in one patient (12.5%) was treated successfully with antibiotic therapy. the reverse sural flap provided a satisfactory coverage for gunshot defects in all the patients. objectives: the purpose of this prospective case series study was explore the capacity of the perforator-based sural flap in reconstruction surgery of patients with high velocity gunshot wounds in the distal third of the leg and heel pad of the foot. patients and methods: a prospective case series study was undertaken to assess the sural fasciocutaneous flap carried out in our hospital, from 2010 to 2011. this case series study comprised eight patients, seven men and one woman with an average age of 35 years (19-55) and with a mean follow-up duration of 13 months (6-24 months). all patients had a history of a gunshot wound in distal part of the leg and heel pad of the foot with large soft-tissue defects; treatment was done using the reverse sural flap. background: coverage of traumatic soft-tissue defects in the lower limb is a common procedure. conclusions: reverse sural flap is a useful and versatile reconstructive method in patients with gunshot wounds of the lower leg and foot.

Distally Based Sural Artery Flap: A Workhorse to Cover the Soft Tissue Defects of Distal Leg, Ankle and Foot

Background & Aims: Distal leg, ankle and foot injuries are relatively common; and because of lack of soft tissue and poor blood supply in these areas, one of the common problems in these patients is soft tissue necrosis. Exposed orthopedic implants can be used as open reduction internal fixator (ORIF) in these regions. Methods: During 2013-2014, 14 patients (11 men and 3 women) with a mean age ...

Synchronous Soleus and Reverse Sural Flap for Large Soft Tissue Defect Reconstruction of Leg

BACKGROUND Extended Soft tissue defect of leg including middle and distal parts always has been a challenge for many plastic surgeons and also a frustrated problem for patients and families. To introduce the use of the soleus muscle and reverse sural flaps as synchronous surgical treatment alternative of the leg bone exposure with large soft tissue defect, this study was conducted. METHODS T...

Reverse sural island flap in coverage of defects lower third of leg: a series of nine cases.

The distally based sural island flap was first described by Masquelet, et al., in 1992. It is a skin island flap supplied by the vascular axis of the sural nerve. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that it can be applied in coverage of difficult wound in the lower third of the leg. We treated nine patients with nine distally based sural island flaps. All the flaps survived, most of the fla...

Role of reverse sural artery flap for soft tissue defects of lower limb: experience with 66 cases.

BACKGROUND Reverse sural artery flap has proved to be a good option to reconstruct soft tissue defects of lower limb and foot region. Different studies, however, speak of its use in different areas depending upon the individual experiences. Various modifications of the flap technique have been described in various studies. This study highlights many of the modifications in a single series and t...

The Reverse Superficial Sural Artery Flap Revisited for Complex Lower Extremity and Foot Reconstruction

BACKGROUND Soft-tissue defects of the distal lower extremity and foot present significant challenges to the reconstructive surgeon. The reverse superficial sural artery flap (RSSAF) is a popular option for many of these difficult wounds. Our initial experience with this flap at multiple institutions resulted in a 50% failure rate, mostly because of critical venous congestion. To overcome this, ...
